Artist StatementAs a photographer, I spend most of my time waiting for the right moment. This space of waiting, anticipating, noticing and appreciating is what I look for as an artist and in general. It is a peaceful state of being, in which being present is necessary and creating is possible. For me, it is very much intertwined with being a photographer, but it tends to spill into everything else.In my work, I’m searching for this state of being, but also build literal spaces with my images and words. Finding architecture in nature and bending architectural features to fit my perception of it. I’m not searching for neutrality or emptiness, I’m trying to find something to leave unaltered. To not want for more and to create without doing. It seems contradictory; instead of willing things into existence, I would rather let it happen. In one of my projects, I give myself advice in the form of New Year’s resolutions. These advices are written fast and yearly, but I don’t want them to disappear come January 1st. I try to sit with them as I do with my failures and dreams. I pick out a part of it and weave it into a little piece of fabric. Sitting with it and giving it the attention it deserves.
